Dental Plan

When we say put your money where your mouth is, we mean as little money as possible. Just like with the medical plans, Fisher Investments pays 100% of the monthly premium costs for you and your eligible dependents, offering one of the best dental plans available. The spending limits, out-of-pocket costs and flexibility far exceed the coverage provided by other finance employers. In fact, our dental limits and plan design put us at the top of the mark in our industry.

Dental Benefits

There is one coverage option available: the Guardian Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Dental Plan (PDF). The dental plan has been specifically designed by Fisher Investments to allow for extensive flexibility in terms of the network of providers, services and covered allowances.

Fisher Investments has set an annual limit of $2,000 per person for dental expenses; the annual limit does not apply to orthodontia expenses. Except for preventive care, you pay an annual deductible ($25 per person or $75 family maximum) before the plan pays benefits. These annual limits are yours to use as you choose. What does this mean exactly? Unlike other dental insurance that limits your cleanings and denies larger-ticket items (like implants), the Fisher Investments plan bypasses all of that.

Although you can see both in and out-of-network dentists, it’s always more cost-effective to choose a dentist in the Guardian network. With a Guardian preferred provider, your out-of-pocket costs will be lower and less will be applied to your annual coverage maximum. To find a dentist in the network, use the search tool on the Guardian website.

The Plan also covers orthodontia – including braces, retainers and Invisalign – for children and adults ($2,000 lifetime maximum benefit). In addition to traditional orthodontia services, Guardian also offers an alternative in-network option through a service called BYTE, which is a mail-order orthodontia service. All of the care provided by BYTE is performed under the supervision of a licensed provider.

The following is an example of how much the Guardian plan covers for common dental services.

Vision Plan

The Fisher Investments vision plan through VSP was designed to be extremely generous. Not only does Fisher Investments pay 100% of the monthly vision premium costs for you and your dependents, the plan also offers top-notch allowances. Even better, there’s no annual deductible amount before the plan begins to pay benefits.

For eye exams within the VSP network, the plan pays 100% of the cost; outside of the network, the plan pays up to $76. The plan offers a $300 allowance on the first pair of frames, plus fully covered lenses. If you choose to get a second pair of glasses, the plan offers an allowance of up to $150 on frames, plus full covered lenses (after a $20 copay). If you would prefer contact lenses, you may use one or both of your allowances on a contact lens purchase.

Some upgrades, such as UV coating, scratch-resistant coating, progressive lenses, and polycarbonate lenses are covered in full by the plan, while other upgrades, such as anti-reflective coating and tints are covered after a $20 copay.

Using the VSP plan is really easy! At your appointment, simply tell the provider you have VSP and they’ll take care of the rest. For out-of-network expenses, you must submit a claim to VSP online at

Through the VSP plan, you’ll receive a 20% discount on any amount not covered under your annual allowance and on non-prescription sunglasses purchased from a network provider. You’ll also have access to the TruHearing Hearing Aid Discount Program, which offers members discounts of up to $1,300 on a hearing aid purchase. If you have Kaiser medical coverage (within or outside California), a routine eye exam at a Kaiser optical center is $20. To find a center, search through the Kaiser website.
